PEDALLING AT HIGH ALTITUDE : THE SALT ROAD BY E-BIKE

01/06/2024 - 30/09/2024
Limone Piemonte
Via(E)

Description

The Salt Route is one of the many gems which Cuneo and its Alps offers the tourist or traveller who wants to experience uncontaminated, pure and living nature of the High Mountain.
This ancient road, which connects the mountains to the sea and travelled by traders to exchange the precious salt coming from Liguria with the farming products from Piedmont, has been resurfaced and allows to experience all the beauty of this wild territory which changes appearance at each bend, from Alpine pastures to Carsene, to the landscape which slowly becomes maritime.

You travel the peak on the Italian-French border, pedalling for the entire route at an altitude of around 2000 m on gentle slopes and easy descents to Rifugio Don Barbera, along a beautiful dirt road built during the great wars by the Italian troops, but never used for war purposes, immersed in breathtaking scenery on the highest peaks of the Southern Alps, larch forests and vegetation which joins Alpine species and strictly maritime species.
