Spring brings the desire to experience the reawakening of nature. Val Bormida is the ideal destination to explore calmly to capture all its beauty. The River Bormida crosses Liguria and Piemonte and, in one section, it flows parallel to the Alessandria Savona railway station. The river is the characteristic feature of the area as is the cultural itinerary Bormida Gotica (bormidagotica.org) which partly develops around the tributary of Spigno. The itinerary currently includes the study of 26 heritage sites (churches, pievi) which are home to exquisite late Gothic frescoes. The combination between the senses and five saints - selected from among the most representative paintings - makes Santa Esperienza an invitation to indulge one emotion at a time, appreciating and enjoying the moment. It is an original tour package which always includes a visit to a site of the itinerary. The Cassine-Bistagno combination is one of the most popular experience days. The two municipalities are 23km away, 30m by car or 20m by train. Cassine is 1h30m by car from Milan, Turin, Genoa or Savona. The railway stations support sustainable mobility and bike & train tours.

Cassine. The Church of San Francesco > HEARING
In Cassine's scenic Piazza Vittorio Veneto, an important crossroads in the early Middle Ages, stands the imposing Church of San Francesco, one of the sites of the Bormida Gotica circuit. The visit is combined with the sense of HEARING, thanks to the presence of Sant'Antonio Abate, who is encountered several times, depicted with a bell in his hand or on his staff. Many anecdotes and precious little secrets are revealed by the guide, and you can also listen to an episode dedicated to the site in the Bormida Gotica podcast.
Bistagno. Giulio Monteverde Plaster Cast Gallery > SIGHT, TOUCH, SMELL
The Plaster Cast Gallery houses Monteverde's plaster works from 1870 to 1917. The new exhibition features an interactive panel dedicated to in-depth information on the Oneto Angel—a sculpture that has surpassed its creator in fame and is the most reproduced in the world—enhances the sense of SIGHT, evokes emotion, and creates a dreamlike atmosphere.
In the Plaster Cast Gallery, the Making Path [TOUCH] is a plus, and each guest is invited to touch the models that mark the transition from clay to plaster, marble, and bronze. One activity in the Workshop is to create a small scented plaster angel [SMELL].
Cassine or Bistagno. Farm > TASTE
Complete the offer with the Santa Esperienza, an activity to train the TASTE, with a wine and hazelnut tasting at a farm in Bistagno or Cassine.
