Roccaverano
Bormida Experience

Description

Santa Esperienza is an original tour package which always includes a visit to one of the sites of the Bormida Gotica cultural itinerary (bormidagotica.org), an identifying factor of Val Bormida. Santa Esperienza is a rigorous but flexible sensory-based package, which involves the traveler in activities agreed with the local tour operators: 5 saints depicted in the frescoes (Lucia, Antonio Abate, Agata, Apollonia and Rocco) refer to the 5 senses to build a memorable narrative. Each stage of an Experience Day stimulates sight, hearing, touch, taste and smell. The Roccaverano - Monastero Bormida combination makes for a fascinating experience day. The two municipalities are 90 minutes / two hours by car from Turin, Milan, Savona and Genoa. The distance between Roccaverano and Monastero Bormida is 12 km, 15m by car and less than 40m by bike. The station of Mombaldone on the Alessandria-Savona line stops at Roccaverano, which is the highest municipality of Asti (759 meters above sea level) and is 9 km from the station.

Roccaverano. Church of San Giovanni Battista > VIEW
A destination for nature lovers (hiking and biking) and good foodies, Roccaverano boasts, outside the center, the small church of San Giovanni Battista with a splendid fresco cycle featuring three saints: Lucia (sight), Apollonia (taste), and Agata (touch). Leaving Saint Lucia to admire such artistic beauty [VIEW], moving to the central square, where the Church of the Annunziata (early 16th century) stands, with its Langhe stone façade designed by Donato Bramante, you can see the former school.

Roccaverano. The School of Roccaverano DOP > TASTE
The School is now a true cultural gastronomic hub where you can learn about an exceptional product and delight your palate with tastings of Roccaverano DOP cheese, a soft, artisanal cheese made from 100% goat's milk [TASTE].

Roccaverano. Farm > TOUCH
During the Roccaverano stop, a visit to a consortium farm allows you to learn about the various stages that lead to the creation of cheese. Petting the goats [TOUCH] is highly recommended.

Bormida Monastery. Castle > HEARING and SMELL
Only a special visit can immerse you in the medieval era of a castle, listening to the secret stories of when it was a Benedictine monastery and had no defensive features. The Custodes Viarum re-enactors bring the castle to life with knights in heavy armor and long swords who stage sonorous duels [HEARING] while nobles and ladies recount tales around fires that lend the air a particularly evocative scent [SMELL].
