Program

Day 1

Participants will meet at a farmhouse. A briefing with the organizers will explain the bike tour to discover the natural, scenic, cultural, and food and wine beauties of the Sila National Park. Dinner featuring local products made on the farm and overnight stay at the farmhouse.

Day 2

Breakfast at the hotel. Departure from the hotel to begin our exciting bike tour to discover the Sila National Park. We'll pedal along gentle climbs and pleasant descents to reach the first stop of the day, Cava di Melis, where we'll visit the highest vineyard in Europe, known as a "heroic vineyard" because it manages to survive the harsh and particularly snowy winter climate. In addition to the tour, you can taste the wines produced on the estate, accompanied by an excellent platter of typical products. At the end of the experience, we'll depart Cava di Melis to reach Lagarò Lupinacci, a small rural and agricultural village in the heart of the Sila Plateau, known for producing the renowned Sila Potato PGI, for its numerous educational farms, and for the majestic Chestnut Tree of San Francesco, recently included in the list of Monumental Trees of Italy due to its size and centuries-old age. Along the way, your attention will be drawn to Lake Cecita, one of the lakes in the Sila region, offering breathtaking panoramic views. Lunch will be served at a farm stay featuring locally sourced produce. After regaining your breath and regaining your strength, we'll depart from Lagarò Lupinacci to reach Campo San Lorenzo, our final destination. This small village stretches along the shores of Lake Cecita, known for the Church of San Lorenzo, located directly on the lake's shores. Along the way, we'll make a short stop in Camigliatello Silano, a popular tourist destination on the plateau. Arrival in Campo San Lorenzo, hotel check-in, and dinner featuring local products reimagined with a gourmet twist.

Day 3

Breakfast at the hotel. Departure from Campo San Lorenzo to begin the second leg of our tour, which includes Lorica, an important mountain town in the Sila region, enhanced by Lake Arvo, a lake within the Sila National Park, offering a variety of sports and entertainment. Today's leg offers a true full immersion in the Sila's most pristine nature. To reach Lorica, you must travel the Strada delle Vette, a highly scenic stretch of road offering extraordinary views, connecting the highest and most majestic peaks of the plateau: Monte Curcio (1,768 m), Monte Scuro (1,621 m), and Monte Botte Donato (1,928 m). Arrival in Lorica, check-in, and dinner at a typical grill featuring local produce accompanied by an excellent pint of craft beer.

Day 4

Breakfast at the hotel. Departure from Lorica to begin our last day of cycling. The first stop of the day is San Giovanni in Fiore, the largest and most populated mountain town in the Sila, where we'll take a guided tour of the Florense Abbey, one of Calabria's greatest medieval architectural masterpieces and a treasure trove of profound spirituality. Another point of interest linked to ancient artisan traditions is the art of goldsmithing, carried on for generations by the Spadafora family. A break and tasting of pitta 'mpigliata, a typical Sila dessert made with dried fruit, honey, spices, and raisins encased in a fragrant shortcrust pastry shell. From San Giovanni in Fiore, you'll pedal to Villaggio Mancuso, skirting the third lake on the plateau, Lake Ampollino. A mountain town in the Sila Piccola, it is characterized by the typical presence of Nordic-style chalets from the 1950s and 1960s. The small village offers natural and scenic beauty, and the surrounding environment is rich in biodiversity, making it an ideal place for walks and relaxation. Important for the area are the "Antonio Garcea" Monaco Visitor Center, dedicated to the discovery and appreciation of Sila's nature and biodiversity, and the Taverna Civic Museum, which represents an important reference point for scholars and enthusiasts of Mattia Preti, a native of the area. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
