Program

Day 1

Arrival in Lorica, transfers from train stations and airports available upon request, accommodation at the hotel, and a briefing with the Park's hiking guides for a brief explanation of the tour. After check-in, stroll along the avenue that runs alongside Lake Arvo, one of three lakes on the Sila Plateau, along with Lake Cecita and Lake Ampollino. Take an electric boat tour on the lake, admiring the surrounding landscape. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 2

"Altar Stone" Trekking Excursion and Visit to the Village of San Giovanni in Fiore
Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer by minivan to Carlomagno, the starting point of our first "Altar Stone" trekking excursion. According to local legend, its name derives from a mass celebrated there by a group of knights returning from the Crusades. They improvised an altar on a large stone, likely in the presence of Charlemagne himself. The panoramic viewpoint offers breathtaking views of Montenero, the Perilli Hills, and Lake Arvo. Return to Lorica and lunch at a traditional restaurant. In the afternoon, transfer by minivan to San Giovanni in Fiore, a guided walk through the ancient village, and a visit to the Florense Abbey, a medieval architectural gem founded by the Cistercian abbot Gioacchino da Fiore. The Spadafora family's goldsmith workshop, a symbol of the Silan village's artisanal tradition, and the Caruso artistic weaving workshop, handed down through generations. Tasting of pitta 'mpigliata, a traditional Silan dessert made with dried fruit, honey, and spices encased in a thin layer of shortcrust pastry. Return to Lorica. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.

Length: 6 km – Duration: 3 hours – Elevation gain: 141 m

During the trek, a picnic lunch will be provided by the hotel. At the end of the experience, a guided tour of the Sila Giants Reserve will be included. This biogenetic heritage site is protected by the FAI (Italian National Trust), and boasts a centuries-old forest of 58 specimens of Corsican pine, a species endemic to the Sila area, reaching a height of 45 meters and a diameter of approximately 2 meters. Return to Lorica. In the afternoon, there's the opportunity to enjoy sports activities on Lake Arvo. Dinner at a traditional grill and overnight stay at a hotel.
