Description
Each of us, at least once in our lives, feels the need to unwind from the hustle and bustle of daily life and carve out some time for ourselves and our families, characterized by relaxation and physical and mental well-being. We offer those who wish to fulfill this need an eight-day stay in Sila, a place where relaxation and well-being blend together, completely immersed in pristine nature. Trekking excursions of varying difficulty and accessible to all along the trails of the Sila National Park, e-bike excursions, horseback riding excursions, visits to nature reserves, guided tours of villages rich in history and tradition, various activities where you can test your skills in a sustainable way and fully respect the ecosystem, tastings of typical and authentic products, visits to educational farms where you can try your hand at being a farmer, and winery tours and tastings.
Program
Day 1
Participants arrive, check in to their hotel, and transfer by minivan to the Cupone Visitor Center, the gateway to the Sila National Park. This center, dedicated to environmental education, is considered the main showcase of our region. It includes wildlife enclosures, a geological garden, a nature museum, and a botanical garden. Before returning to the hotel, guests will enjoy a tasting of agrigelato made with organic milk and fruit. After the tasting, return to Camigliatello. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 2
"Anello del Tasso" Trekking Excursion and Visit to Europe's Highest Vineyard
Breakfast at the hotel. Depart from the hotel to the square in front of the Tasso – Monte Curcio ski lifts, where we'll begin our "Anello del Tasso" trek. This 5-km hike takes 2 hours, with an elevation gain of 174 m. The trek passes through an enchanting forest of larch pines and extends entirely within the Tasso Biogenetic Reserve, a protected natural area that was once part of the so-called "closed chambers," or forested areas where cutting timber was prohibited as it was used for shipbuilding. At the end of the experience, return to the hotel for lunch. In the afternoon, transfer by minivan to Cava di Melis, where we'll begin our visit to Europe's highest vineyard, known as a "heroic vineyard" because it manages to survive the harsh temperatures and snowy winter climate. Tasting of the estate's wines, accompanied by an excellent platter of local produce. At the end of the experience, dinner at a restaurant featuring local products reinterpreted with a gourmet twist. Return to the hotel and overnight stay.
Day 3
Farm Experience and "Ariamacina" Trekking Excursion
Breakfast at the farm. Minivan transfer to the educational farm. Upon arrival, a storytelling of the farm's activities and a walk through the pastures and the stables. A break with fruit juices and homemade biscuits will follow. A caciocavallo cheese spinning and processing workshop will follow at the dairy. Lunch will be served at the farm, featuring locally sourced produce. At the end of the experience, return to Camigliatello. In the afternoon, minivan transfer to Silvana Mansio, where our "Ariamacina" circular trek will begin. This 6 km, 3-hour trek takes you through lush vegetation and arrives near Lake Ariamacina, a natural oasis within the Sila National Park and a protected area for migratory birds that periodically nest and rest in this treasure trove of biodiversity. At the end of the experience, return to Camigliatello. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 4
A day in Lorica
Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer by minivan to Lorica, a mountain resort nestled in the heart of the Sila National Park, which extends along the shores of Lake Arvo, one of the three largest lakes on the Sila Plateau, along with Lake Cecita and Lake Ampollino. The first stop of the day is the Carlomagno area, the starting point of our "Pietra dell'Altare" trek—6 km long, 3 hours long, with an elevation gain of 141 m—characterized by a fairly rocky mountainous area. According to local legend, its name derives from a mass celebrated there by an expedition of knights returning from the Crusades. They improvised an altar on a massive rock, likely in the presence of King Charlemagne himself. The panoramic viewpoint offers a breathtaking view of Montenero, the Perilli Hills, and Lake Arvo. At the end of the excursion, enjoy lunch at a traditional lakeside grill featuring local produce, accompanied by an excellent glass of craft beer. In the afternoon, enjoy sports activities on Lake Arvo and an electric boat tour. Return to Camigliatello. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 5
"Fiuggi Ring" Trekking Excursion and Visit to the Village of San Giovanni in Fiore
Breakfast at the hotel. Depart from the hotel to reach the starting point of our "Fiuggi Ring" trek – 6 km long, 2.5 hours long, with an elevation gain of 173 meters – during which you will immerse yourself in a forest of larch pines and beech trees, skirt the Camigliati stream, and be captivated by the sounds and sounds typical of pristine nature. Return to the hotel and have lunch at the hotel. In the afternoon, transfer by minivan to San Giovanni in Fiore, a guided walk through the ancient village and a visit to the Florense Abbey, a medieval architectural treasure trove, founded by the Cistercian abbot Gioacchino da Fiore. The Spadafora family's goldsmith workshop, a symbol of the Sila village's artisanal tradition, and the Caruso artistic weaving workshop, handed down through generations, are also located here. Tasting of pitta 'mpigliata, a traditional Silan dessert made with dried fruit, honey, and spices encased in a thin layer of shortcrust pastry. Following the experience, dinner featuring traditional products at a local restaurant. Return to Camigliatello and overnight stay.
Day 6
The Giants of Sila Reserve and horseback ride
Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer by minivan to the Giants of Sila Reserve in Fallistro, where a guided tour of this treasure trove of biodiversity awaits. This biogenetic heritage is protected by the FAI (Italian Environment Fund), and boasts a centuries-old forest of 58 specimens of Corsican pine, a species endemic to our region. These trees reach a height of 45 meters and have a diameter of approximately 2 meters. After the experience, return to Camigliatello, enjoy a leisurely stroll along the main street, and enjoy a lunch featuring typical local products. In the afternoon, transfer by minivan to the Vallepiccola Equestrian Center for a horseback ride. This highly regarded eco-friendly activity allows you to explore ancient trails characterized by lush vegetation in complete safety with the assistance of expert guides. It offers a relaxing experience in harmony with nature and promotes respect and protection of the ecosystem. At the end of the experience, return to Camigliatello. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 7
Discovering the ancient village of Longobucco
Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer by minivan to the village of Longobucco, in the heart of the Sila National Park, rich in history and ancient traditions. Its historic origins, quaint alleyways, textile art, and old silver mines make it a perfect place for discovery and exploration. The day's experience includes a nature walk with an expert guide along trails through the woods and ancient silver mines, offering glimpses of the typical landscapes of the Sila Plateau. Along the way, an open-air picnic will be served, recalling the ancient culinary traditions of the shepherds. At the end of the experience, lunch will be served in a traditional trattoria. The afternoon will be dedicated to a guided tour of the ancient village of Longobucco, the Mother Church, and the bell tower. A visit to the Celestino Family Weaving Museum is also included, highlighting the noble art skillfully cultivated for generations, characterized by the production of fabrics on an ancient loom. At the end of the experience, enjoy an aperitif at a local winery featuring wine, Longobucchesi taralli, and goat's cheese. Return to Camigliatello in the evening. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 8
Breakfast is served on site. Transfers to train stations and airports are available upon request.
